As a Licensed Real Estate Salesperson, Matthew Kirby-Smith strongly believes that developing mutual trust and a strong connection with his clients is the foundation for productive and successful relationships. His philosophy is based upon asking the right questions first, then listening to clearly understand his clients’ goals, whether it’s buying or selling a home or finding a commercial space to locate a business.
Matt has 15 years of diverse real estate experience in commercial property management and sales, and now serves clients in both the residential and commercial market segments. As a Vice President at JLL, his experience includes representing institutional investors and owners to manage and transform office building portfolios. Matt has overseen projects such as construction of a major fitness center, lobby renovations, and directed office build outs from space planning and design processes through construction. In his first property management assignment at 320 Park Avenue, Matt spearheaded project management for LEED Silver Certification, the first commercial building to receive that award in the existing building category.
Born and raised in Park Slope, Brooklyn, where he still resides, Matt brings first hand knowledge of the New York City real estate market. His ability to share generational experiences and stories about the people, places and culture in Brooklyn allows Matt to connect with clients in an authentic way. Growing up in Park Slope, Matt began to understand the value of real estate through his parent’s diligence and patience while renovating a Brownstone and generating income from two apartments. This first hand exposure generated Matt’s passion and interest in the practical and financial benefits of buying, managing and selling property.
Matt was a New York Newsday All-Brooklyn baseball player and led Berkeley Carroll to its first ever High School Baseball championship. He went on to play NCAA baseball at Guilford College in Greensboro, NC, where he double majored in Management and Sports Management. A dedicated New York sports fan, Matt covers all the seasons when it comes to his allegiance for his favorite teams including the Mets, Giants and Knicks. In his spare time, Matt enjoys cooking creative meals at home, running in Prospect Park and playing golf. In addition, he is active with several non profit organizations and charities, including his current service as a founding board member of Emblaze Academy, a charter school in the Bronx.
